About the Program

Students Prepared for Meaningful Discussions with a Legislator

Read HCR 2, Resolution Recognizing Utah's Legislators Back to School Program, passed in the 2006 General Session.
Review supplemental materials that legislators can leave with students K-12. See how well they correlate with Utah's state curriculum standards.
Find legislators, by address and map, who represent your school or school district.
Prepare students to get involved in the political process. Their ideas count and can affect public policy decisions for the better.
Schedule A Classroom Visit. Describe your lesson objective and ask the legislator how his/her involvement can enhance the experience.
Return completed evaluation forms. Your input is invaluable for improving the program.
We The People: Project Citizen is an excellent civic education program that will give students hands-on experience in forming public policy.
Utah State Government - A Citizen's Guide is a great reference tool in teaching high school students about our state's government and how it works.

Eighty-four Utah Legislators connected with more than 18,210 students in 220 different schools during the 2005-2006 school year!
